Bali karma

Complete peace is Usually my general feeling when I’m in Bali. And I know that’s a feeling so many people have when in Bali, and what keeps us coming back.

Jay (retreat tour guide and friend) and I were talking about this yesterday. Jay has been to Australia a few times so has perspective on this. We were having lunch at the Alaya Hotel in Ubud overlooking their rice paddies, listening to the birds and I was remarking how calm and relaxed I was feeling. Jay said it’s to do with Bali’s karma.

He was explaining that us tourists say its because we are surrounded by nature. But there is that same nature in other parts of Indonesia, but tourists don’t describe it in the same way as we do about Bali.

Jay says it’s all to do with every square centimetre of the land in Bali is sacred. Every little bit of the land has been blessed and had ceremonies for it to protect the land from evil, to give the land good karma.

Sitting amongst it, I understand where he’s coming from. The land feels like it envelopes me in a soothing embrace and I’ve only been in Bali for 4 hours. By the end of a week I feel like a marshmallow.

This spirituality or karma is definitely what keeps me coming back to Bali.
